Do not pick up this cute fuzzy-looking caterpillar.

Let me introduce you to the Hickory tussock moth caterpillar. According to an article on the website, hudsonvalleypost.com., Hudson Valley residents have seen these little critters wiggling around but if you see one, don't pick it up because the black and white hairs on its back contain venom.

No need to panic because the venom won't kill you although it might cause a rash similar to poison ivy. The caterpillar's hairs can get stuck in a person's skin which causes the rash.

If you do have a meet-and-greet with one of these beautiful caterpillars, make sure to wash the area where the hairs got stuck in your skin. If for some reason you have a severe reaction, although most victims don't, seek medical attention ASAP.
