This Solarium is My Favorite Place to Warm Up in All of Waterbury
It's 8 degrees outside on January 21, 2025, and this is no time to be outside in the sun, it's much nicer to sit inside a nice solarium. My favorite place to take in the freezing temperatures in all of Connecticut is in Waterbury.

What is a solarium? According to wikipedia.com, a solarium or sunroom 'Is a room that permits abundant daylight and views of the landscape while sheltering from adverse weather. When I think of comfortable sunrooms in below freezing temperatures my mind goes to the Colonial Plaza in Waterbury. San Marino Ristorante Italiano is located in Waterbury's Colonial Plaza at 111-23 Thomaston Avenue, and for as long as I can remember they've had a really nice glass solarium in the heart of the restaurant. What I love even more is the food that you can enjoy while watching the snow come down right over your head. I can tell you this. DiBlasi pasta tastes even better when it's below 20 degrees.
Unfortunately, right across the street from the San Marino in the plaza is 95 Thomaston Avenue, this building houses my favorite solarium of the past. This used to be Applause Video in the late 80's/early 90's. Us old farts used to go there to rent movies before the internet took all of our consumer power out of our hands. I miss the feeling of browsing the aisles of new releases and snacks while watching the ice and snow fall onto those windows.
The temperature is not supposed to go above freezing until this weekend, now is a great time to catch a few rays while you enjoy a great meal.
