This May Be the Most Underrated Restaurant in Litchfield County
I just did something very unusual; I ate dinner at the same restaurant two Friday nights in a row. I honestly can't remember the last time that I did this, and I had never heard of the restaurant before my first visit. I believe that I may have discovered the most underrated restaurant in Litchfield County.
My wife and I went to see Rachael Yamagata and Sandy Bell perform at the gorgeous Infinity Music Hall in Norfolk last Friday evening, and we grabbed dinner before the show at the little restaurant next door - The Norfolk Pub. We didn't have reservations, and it was 6:30ish on a Friday night. Walking in from the cold, we were greeted promptly, asked if we would be attending the show, and we were quickly guided to a table within :30 seconds of our arrival. Every table was filled in the place, I would estimate 60-100? But the hard-working staff assured us we would make it to the start of the show.
The Norfolk Pub has a simple menu, filled with New England comfort food classics. For appetizers, they serve wings, calamari, crab cakes, nachos, and the wild card - Risotto Arancini. A nice selection of soups, salads, and sandwiches are on the menu, and the dinner choices include Pan-Seared Duck or Salmon, Mushroom Ravioli, Penne Bolognese, and Shrimp, Chicken, or Steak entrees. I chose the mild chicken wings for my app, and the French Dip sandwich for my entree, and my wife ordered the Cowboy Burger. We had our food within five minutes. Superior, attentive service, and everything we ordered was cooked perfectly. The wings were outstanding, lightly breaded, and the quality of chicken stood out. My French Dip? I rarely use the phrase 'orgasmic' in life, but wow, it's appropriate.
We left, raving about the experience at Norfolk Pub, and enjoyed the show. This past Friday night, after hemming and hawing over whether we should go to Litchfield, Canton, or head down to Waterbury, we both agreed that the best meal that we've had in a long time came from The Norfolk Pub, and we went back. It was not a fluke, the place was almost as busy as the night of the show, but the same service and quality of food was there. I highly recommend The Norfolk Pub.
