When the weather cools off in the Fall, it's officially French Dip season in Connecticut, and I don't know about you, but I feel as though my favorite sandwich is having a moment in 2024.

Did some of you forget the simple pleasure of dipping a roast beef sandwich in a cup of beef broth/au jus? The French Dip sandwich originated in Los Angeles, California somewhere between 1908 and 1918. Just like the hamburger and lobster roll in Connecticut, two Los Angeles restaurants claim that they were the ones to invent the magical combination of roast beef, a baguette, and au jus. I fell in love with the French Dip from Arby's as c kid, and now I can't resist one if I see it on a menu.

The most recent outstanding French Dip sandwich that I've had came from a newer restaurant in my hometown of Torrington. The Store is located at 99 Turner Ave in downtown, and I ordered the one you see in the photo above. Thin strips of roast beef, a nice layer of provolone cheese, on a beautiful baguette, with a nice cup of broth on the side. It was excellent, and it's on the menu at The Store for $17.

Another superior French Dip sandwich I've had in the past few weeks came from the Norfolk Pub on Rt. 44 in Norfolk. The Norfolk Pub French Dip is served on garlic-buttered bread, oh God, what a nice touch. My third French Dip sandwich in October 2024 came from Berkshire Cafe on Albert Street in Torrington, Berkshire also serves their French Dip on garlic bread. Maybe that's the way to my heart? In November, I'm hitting The White Horse in New Preston for their French Dip, I hear it's amazing.
