We're finally approaching the time of year that I truly love - the heart of the 2023 outdoor fair season. As the kids start disappearing back into the school buses and the overnight temps start dipping into the upper 40's, that when the fried dough and fresh corn roll out.

I start thinking about fairs and festivals in the Springtime, but I'm kind of spoiled at this point, I only like going to the fairs that are well-established, like ones that I've been going to my whole life. There are a few that have been around for over 60-70-80 years. There have been a few around Connecticut that almost got me, most recently the PoCo (Potato and Corn) Festival happened in North Branford this past weekend.

I truly believe that the 70th annual Bridgewater Country Fair on August 18-20, 2023 is the start of fair season. The fair is the main source of income for the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department, which is the very last self-sustaining Fire Department in all of Connecticut. This is Bridgewater's main event every year, and they do it right.

The Terryville Lions Country Fair is celebrating their 75th anniversary in 2023, this year's event will happen August 25-27. Labor Day weekend 2023 is also Goshen Fair weekend at the Goshen Fairgrounds, the 2023 Goshen Fair will run September 1-4.

The very next weekend, the 80th Annual North Haven Fair will take place on Washington Avenue from September 8-11. That same weekend, the Bethlehem Fair is happening on September 8-10. This all leads up to the opening of the true star of the season, the Beast of the East, The Big E, which is happening September 15 - October 1 for 2023. Start shucking the corn now, I've been waiting a year for this.

If relaxing is not your jam you can do some water sports or just bug-out (my favorite). Candlewood Lake is popular for a reason it's a lot of fun. However, just like any place the vibe can be ruined by certain behaviors. Some might say, what is there to argue about? Here are 6 things I've seen people argue over on Candlewood Lake.

Remembering the Age of Arcades in Connecticut - the 1980's

I grew up in the heyday of coin-operated video games, the 1970's & 80's, where there was a coin-operated video game in every convenience store, restaurant, and the pinnacle of them all - the Arcade. A recent ttrip to New hampshire started me thinking about the old arcades that were across Connecticut
