It is really simple to me.  There can be only one.

There is a short list of rock stars that are in consideration to be in the top five rock stars of all time, but facts are facts.

Jim Morrison is the greatest rock star of all time. I'd put Keith Richards, John Bonham and Axl Rose on the list, but no one comes close to Morrison though.

What makes a Rockstar?

1 - He is rebellious - This is the most important.

2 - He is wildly intelligent - Some people don't have to be this to be a Rock star, but this one is so important if you wanna be at the top of the list.

3 - He was sensitive and aggressive - He picked his spots with aggression which is huge but he was sensitive enough for women and not too sensitive for men.

4 - He was a poet - The music speaks for itself.  The lyrics make you think, some make sense and some don't - POET - TASTE IT.

5 - He had an interesting background - He was not born into the rock and roll life.  He had a life before rock.  He was a Navy brat who moved often.  He went to St. Petersburgh College in Clearwater, FLA, he went to Florida State and then transferred to UCLA's film school.

He made several short films at school while his father served in Vietnam.  He led a bohemian lifestyle from the roof of a Venice Beach, CA rooftop apartment.  He lived on canned beans and LSD for months in the mid 60's while writing early Doors songs that at the time he thought were just poems.

6 - He was complicated - Many of the people I would put on the list of the best rock stars were not actually great artists.  Morrison was both.  He fits the criteria for both great rock star and great artist.

7 - He was a tortured soul - Morrison was intelligent, rebellious and artistic - This combination can lead a person to and through boredom, addiction and chaos.  He experienced all of them.

8 - Men wanted to be him and women wanted to be with him - Self explanatory.

9 - Mystery - Even to this day his life and death are shrouded in mystery.  You have to be a special kind of famous to have people decide that you might still be alive when you are clearly documented as being dead.

10 - Late life - He pretty much denounced his early career, body and ideas.  He kept self examining which is the only way to keep evolving as an artist.

11 - Drug use - part of the game - I guess it should not be if we are all being humane but try and think of a rock star without thinking of an addict.  You can't.

This is the epitome of Rock star and no one did it better than Jim Morrison
