One of Connecticut's largest municipally owned parks will soon be even more beautiful to enjoy thanks to a state grant of over $63,000.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has just announced that Danbury's Tarrywile Park is among the recipients of a piece of $15 million dollars in state funding that is being awarded to 25 properties in 22 towns and cities in Connecticut. The majority of the funding is going to aid in the purchase of over 2,270 acres of open space, while helping to support the creation of six new community green spaces.

Who Deserves a Handshake and a 'Thank You' Today?

The Friends of Tarrywile Park. They were the sponsor for the project dubbed 'Restoring Tarrywile Park's Beauty through Art, Community, and Biodiversity', and they have been awarded $63,026 in sweet Connecticut funds. According to ct.gov, the funding will be used to construct a new community garden, improve green spaces, install new seating areas, fund a public art installation, fencing, bioswales, and there will be a few bucks left over for rain barrels that will provide water for the new gardens.

Tarrywile Park is located in Danbury on 722 acres, with 21 miles of hiking trails, two ponds and a lake, but it's most famous feature is Terrywile Mansion. The Mansion was built in 1897, it's beautifully preserved, and is a premiere destination for weddings and events. Hartford, New Britain, New Haven, Preston, and Vernon were the other five to receive a piece of the $725,000+ in funds to help create the six new community green spaces.
