At 2 pm Monday, June 15, the brand new bicycle and pedestrian path debuted on New York's Tappan Zee Bridge.

Officially named the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the Tappan Zee's state-of-the-art pedestrian and bike path span 3.6 miles that connect Tarrytown and South Nyack and also include visitor and parking facilities at each landing.
Six scenic overlooks add to the bridge's charm, with each one offering stunning views of the Hudson River while featuring historical information about the Lower Hudson Valley. The names of each Overlook are:
- Fish and Ships
- Palisades
- Painter's Point
- River Crossing
- Half Moon
- Westchester Landing
According to the New York Daily News, the bridge will only be open for bicyclists and pedestrians from 6 am to 10 pm with a 15mph speed limit.
If you're thinking of biking or walking the new bridge path, according to abc7ny.com, it takes 80 minutes to walk the entire 3.6-mile span and 20 minutes to bicycle across. Restrooms are available at the Welcome Centers as are water fountains.
I have a close friend who has Gephyrophobia, which is an anxiety disorder characterized by the fear of bridges. He will intentionally avoid any bridge at all costs. I bring this up because you will feel the new Tappan Zee Bridge vibrate, which is typical for a span of this size.
