Sandy Hook Victim’s Mom Blames Congress for Las Vegas Shootings
Who's fault is it this time, the Democrats, the Republicans, the NRA perhaps?
According to CNN, the latest death toll in the Las Vegas shootings is at 59 dead and 527 wounded. Who are we going to point fingers at this time? Nelda Marquez-Greene is the mother of 6-year-old Ana Marquez-Greene who was murdered on December 14, 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
According to abc13.com, Marquez-Greene took to twitter on Monday to send a message to Congress that because of their "do nothing approach" to gun control, they should be held accountable for the murders in Las Vegas. Here are some examples of her tweets:
I don't know what to say besides this is on every congressperson who said in 2013, 'there is simply nothing we can do.'
We need sensible gun legislation and we need it now!
Is this is what we're saying to American citizens they have to accept as normal? 91 people per day?
In America we value guns, flags, and fake acts of patriotism over people, pain, and real acts of courage.
A study completed in 2016 by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health found that new legal restrictions on owning and purchasing guns tended to be followed by a drop in gun violence, which means that restricting access to guns can save lives. With that said, gun homicides have declined over the last couple of decades.
You may find the results of this next study by the Harvard School of Public Health's Injury Control Center surprising. Most gun deaths are not caused by homicides or mass shootings, they are caused by suicides, which is one of the most compelling reasons for reducing access to firearms. Is that not reason enough to at least get our law makers back to the table to have another discussion about gun control?
