Rye Playland Heist Has Police Tracking Down Plush Toy Thieves
According to FOX 8, police in Westchester County, New York, are searching for three suspects who pulled off one of the most ridiculous heists imaginable — stealing hundreds of stuffed animals from Rye Playland Park.
The break-in happened late last month at the amusement park, which sits right on the Long Island Sound in Rye. Investigators say the trio arrived by boat, hopped a fence, and headed straight for the prize booths. Before making off with their arm loads of toys, they reportedly cut several control room cables — possibly thinking they’d disable security cameras. Spoiler alert: they did not.

Police say the group stuffed around 200 plush toys into garbage bags before taking off. They even tried to shove a photo booth off the boardwalk and onto the beach, but it was too heavy to move.

Authorities have released multiple images from the park’s surveillance system — including some very clear shots of the suspects’ faces. All three appear to be in their early 20s, and one is wearing a Virginia Tech hoodie.
If these guys get caught, they’re looking at some real charges — and honestly, it’s well-deserved. But before we get too deep into that, let’s make something clear: whenever a story that matters to us involves Westchester County, we have to do this...
Now, here’s the real inside scoop: I’d bet the entire farm these geniuses were on the hunt for Labubu dolls.
Never heard of them? You’re not missing much — unless you’re one of the grown adults obsessed with them. Labubu toys are wildly popular collectible figures, often limited-edition and surprisingly pricey. In other words, exactly the kind of thing that makes people do stupid things like break into an amusement park by boat in the middle of the night.
And let’s be real — these aren’t toys for kids. They’re adored by full-grown humanoids who, for reasons unknown, are willing to risk jail time for a weird little gremlin-looking doll. Super cool, right?
They should have just wished to be BIG and gone home to bed.
P.S. My dad used to work at IBM back in the day, and every year they’d host a family day at Rye Playland. I’ve got some great memories from those trips — and apparently, I’m not the only one. SNL alum Fred Armisen’s dad worked there too. Here we are, swapping stories and reminiscing about what it was like growing up as IBM kids at Playland.
