Rare ‘Blood Worm Moon’ to Happen Over Connecticut Skies This Week
I love the sky so much! When we get to see rare events happen in the night sky, it makes me so happy. There are so many cool parts of our solar system and I get so excited when we're able to witness such small parts of it.
Last month, we were able to witness a rare planet parade that happened and this month, we get a total lunar eclipse. This one just has a little bit of a spin on it. What is a total lunar eclipse? It's when the sun, Earth and moon align in a straight line with Earth in the middle. The eclipse reaches totality when the full moon moves into the darkest part of the Earth's shadow.

This week, we will get to witness what is called a "blood worm moon" and it will be the first one in three years. It gets its name from the reddish hue of its glow and the time of year it's occurring, according to NPR. The original March full moon is called the worm moon, but due to the color you will see, it adds to make it a blood worm moon.
You'll be able to see this blood worm moon in the early hours of Friday morning. It looks like it will be hitting our skies around 2:26 AM. The website continues to say that it will last for about an hour and 5 minutes and a partial eclipse will happen an hour and 15 minutes before that.
Are you going to set your alarm to take a look at the night sky? I always recommend doing so. It's not everyday that we get to see these really cool occurrences that happen in our skies. Whoever ends up staying up for it, snap some photos. I would love to see what you saw.
