Based on the pedigrees of the winning bid teams, there's a good chance that the former Litchfield County Courthouse at 15 West Street on the Litchfield Green may possibly be transformed into a 20 guest room boutique hotel.

According to a social media post from Visit Litchfield CT, there will be a public hearing by the Litchfield Planning and Zoning Commission at 7 PM on Monday, May 2, 2022 in the Town Hall Annex at 80 Doyles Road in Bantam. The hearing is regarding an acceptable project plan submitted by Hartford's Lexington Partners LLC & boutique hotelier Salt Hotels to turn the former courthouse into a luxurious 20 room hotel.

The Greater Litchfield Preservation Trust sent out a Request for Proposals just over two years ago in April of 2020 to qualified developers who would rehabilitate and operate the former courthouse, which was closed down in May 2020. The courthouse was built in 1888 and is 18,000 square feet. Two years later, Lexington Partners and Salt Hotels have come up with an acceptable proposal.

Lexington Partners LLC owns and operates 2,344 apartments with 435 more on the way. Most of their properties are in the Greater Hartford area, but they also own and operate properties in New Haven, Old Saybrook, North Carolina and Savannah, Georgia.

Salt Hotels owns and operates 5 gorgeous hotels across the US, with 2 in Provincetown, Mass, and hotels in Kingston, NY, Miami, Florida, and Los Angeles, California. Salt Hotels offers a course in boutique hotel hospitality, which they've dubbed the "Salt School" it will take place sometime this Spring in New Jersey.

With the closest options being the $125 a night Litchfield Inn, the $720 a night Winvian, and rates of $450 - $180 on Airbnb, plus it's proximity to the heart of Litchfield, will Lexington/Salt's proposal be the winning bid? 7 PM, Monday May 2, Town Hall Annex at 80 Doyles Road in Bantam. Either way, speak up.
