Polish Up Your Porsche – The Concours d’Elegance is Coming to CT
As I get older, my love for vintage vehicles grows stronger. Maybe it's because I'm numb to Connecticut's overabundance of Subaru, BMW, Honda, and Toyota vehicles, but when a classic car comes around the corner, I have to stop and stare.
If you're a fan of vintage vehicles like I am, does the name Concours d'Elegance sound familiar? It should, Merriam-Webster defines it as : A show or contest of vehicles and accessories in which the entries are judged on excellence of appearance and turnout.
There are around 60 Conours d'Elegance events held around the US annually, and the Northeast's biggest one is coming to Connecticut in just a couple of weeks. The Greenwich Concours d'Elegance is happening October 22-24, 2021, at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, which is located at 100 Arch St in Greenwich, CT.
What can you expect? Some of the most expensive vehicles that you will ever see, and some of the coolest too. According to the schedule of events at greenwichconcours.com, there will be automotive fun for everyone, including a ride & drive experience, auction, an event dubbed Radwood where cars, trucks, and bikes from 1980-1999 will be featured, and something that really caught my eye - Concours d'Lemons - which is described as a celebration of the odd, unique, and unexpected vehicles that are out there.
There will also be Porschella - a celebration of modified Porsche vehicles, and multiple seminars on topics such as the future of the automobile industry and what comes next, a look at the collector market for vehicles, how to score the ultimate barn find, and the future of car shows and cruise nights.
The main event, the actual Concours itself, will be held on Sunday October 24, where the best of the best will vie for top honors in different categories.
As you can imagine, being such a prestigious event in one of the most expensive towns in the world, the general admission tickets are about the price you'd pay for an average concert. If you want to go to all of the private events scheduled over the weekend, and rub elbows with Jay Leno, those are going for several hundred, up to a couple thousand dollars.
