One of Two Missing Connecticut Boaters Found Alive
Nathan Carman, 22, and his 54-year-old mother, Linda from Middletown boarded a fishing boat out of Port Judith last Sunday, but never returned.
According to nbcconnecticut.com, a freighter caught sight of a life raft about 115 nautical miles off the coast of Martha's Vineyard. Inside that life raft was Nathan Carman but his mother, Linda, was nowhere in sight. The fishing boat was a 31-foot aluminum craft named Chicken Pox. According to the Coast Guard, there was a bag of food and water aboard the life raft.
The Coast Guard had set out on an intensive search starting near Block Island and covered 62,000 square miles from the coast of Rhode Island to New Jersey. Before the trip, Linda Carman told her friend, Sharon Hartstein, that they would be leaving early in the morning on Sunday, September 18, and would be returning later that same day. She also told her friend Sharon:
Call me around 12 noon if you don't hear from me. Thanks for being there.
Her son, Nathan, suffers from Asperger's Syndrome. He was the focus of a 2011 investigation when he turned up missing and then found in Virginia. Nathan was found in good condition aboard the life raft, but his mother Linda's whereabouts remain unknown at this time.
