A local man with a history of dangerous drunk driving was found guilty of felony drunk driving on the Taconic State Parkway.

On Monday in Putnam County Court, Brian R. Morgan, formally of Poughkeepsie, was found guilty by a jury for felony driving while intoxicated.

In September 2016, Morgan was pulled over at 6:30 a.m. on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Putnam Valley for allegedly driving 82 miles per hour.

After pulling over the vehicle, the arresting officer smelled alcohol on Morgan’s breath and noticed that Morgan’s eyes were blood shot, police say. After Morgan failed various field sobriety tests he refused to take a chemical breath test and was placed under arrest.

Morgan has two prior DWI convictions. He was also arrested for driving drunk and speeding on the Taconic in Dutchess County in February 2016.

“Defendants like Morgan, repeat offenders of Driving While Intoxicated, need to be prosecuted vigorously and held accountable for the danger they put others in,” Putnam County District Attorney Robert Tendy said.

Morgan is currently being held in Putnam County jail. He faces two to seven years in prison when sentenced on May 31.
