The Poughkeepsie Journal has reported that Danbury pet shop owner, Richard Doyle of Mahopac, who was charged with three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty back in July after an investigation by state animal control officers from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, has closed one of his two New York stores.

American Breeders: Puppies & Kittens located in Wappingers Falls closed its door on Sept 30 according to the building's landlord. Doyle's other two pet shops are in Mohegan Lake  and on Federal Road in Danbury which remain open.

Authorities have charged Doyle and his manager at the Danbury store, Kathy Seton, of failing to properly care for three pets, two of which had to be put to sleep.

The owner of the Wappingers Fall's building, Frank Buyakowski told the Poughkeepsie Journal that some of the town residents wanted Doyle out of there, so he and Doyle reached a mutual agreement for closing up shop.

Both Doyle and Seton have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
