It's the middle of August 2025 and it's still 80 degrees outside, but the oldest amusement parks in the country has just pulled the plug, literally, on the tallest Christmas tree in Connecticut.

Lake Compounce in Bristol is the oldest amusement parks in America; it's been running every year since 1846. You don't stay in business for almost two centuries without making adjustments and major changes, right? Well, Compounce had a run of major concerts in the 1990's, that went away, but they've built a floating stage for smaller acts in the past couple of years.

Lake Compounce has just announced that another major change will happen at the park this year, and it will be during the 'offseason'. Holiday Lights, a drive-through attraction made from hundreds of thousands of dazzling lights and displays along with the tallest Christmas Tree in Connecticut will end after the 2025 season. Holiday Lights '25 opens up for business at Lake Compounce for the last time on November 28 and will run for a month up until December 28, 2025.

The tallest Christmas Tree in Connecticut was the centerpiece of Holiday Lights, reaching 100 feet into the air. Did you know that the nearby Otis Elevator test tower in Bristol is the tallest elevator test tower in the US? It's impressive, soaring 383 feet above everything else in Bristol, it's actually the sixth tallest building in Connecticut. That's a good idea Otis, why don't you plan on stringing a few hundred thousand lights around your tall shaft and take over the title?
