Just This Once, Washington Had the Lead News Story in Connecticut
Not much happens on the average day in Washington, Connecticut. Life goes on, the Hickory Stick Bookstore sells books, and crime is rare. Yesterday(12-17-24), was different, Washington had the lead news story of the day.
The lead story on the 6PM news on NBCConnecticut.com last night was their story about how Washington has just become the first town in the State of Connecticut to get approval to install speed-enforcement cameras in town. According to nbcconnecticut.com, three cameras are going to be installed in Washington in the near future to curb speeding vehicles. The cameras will scan and record the license plates of vehicles that pass by above the posted speed limit, and fines of up to $75 will be issued to offenders by mail.
The locations haven't been disclosed for the three speed-enforcement cameras yet, but I believe the obvious choice for one would be on Rt.109/Calhoun Street on the big hill into town between Church Hill Road and the Town Hall/Washington Supply area, and another should probably be installed on 47 by the Kirby Rd/Po intersection.
There were also two motor vehicle thefts reported in Washington yesterday. According to BreakingNow, a white Audi SUV was stolen by 3 individuals who fled to Watertown, and another vehicle was stolen from a gas station in Washington Depot, but the vehicle's owner was able to successfully stop the thieves and recover it. It's believed that the two incidents may have been connected. Even in Washington Depot, don't leave your car running at the pump.
