CT Drivers Admit They Judge People by the Cars They Drive

According to the survey results shared by Lemon Law Experts, Connecticut drivers may be doing a lot more than checking out the make and model of the car next to them. They may also be making snap judgments about the driver's political views.

The survey found that Connecticut ranked as the most judgmental state in America when it comes to assuming someone's politics based solely on the vehicle they drive. That's a pretty wild title to earn, but the numbers back it up.

A whopping 82% of Connecticut residents admitted they've looked at a stranger's car and made assumptions about that person's political beliefs. It doesn't stop there, either. Nearly two-thirds of Nutmeg State residents said they'd also judge the politics of someone they were going on a first date with based on what they drove. Almost half said they'd even make assumptions about a coworker's political views after seeing their vehicle.

The survey also found that politics is influencing buying decisions. More than half of Connecticut respondents said they would avoid purchasing certain car brands because of their political image. Tesla topped the list, with 49% saying it's the brand they'd least want to be seen driving because of the message they believe it sends.

The national results paint a similar picture. Across the country, nearly eight in ten Americans admitted they've guessed a stranger's political beliefs based on their vehicle. The survey also found that many people associate Ford with Republicans, while Subaru was most commonly linked to Democrats.

Of course, what someone drives doesn't necessarily say anything about their political views. People choose vehicles for all kinds of reasons, including price, reliability, fuel economy, family size, or simply because they like how it looks.

Still, if this survey is any indication, Connecticut drivers may want to think twice before assuming they know someone's politics just because they recognize the logo on the front grille.
