Hey insomniacs and stargazers of Connecticut, instead of endlessly scrolling on your device and pacing around your kitchen tonight, try to find a place with a clear Northwestern view. Why watch infomercials when you may be able to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights?

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, us earthlings are about to get hit by a big geomagnetic storm this evening, and according to their forecast Northern Connecticut may have the best chance to catch a glimpse of these late tonight and early tomorrow morning (November 30/December 1, 2023). Based on NOAA's forecast, I'd say that your best chance to see Aurora Borealis in Connecticut tonight would be between 2AM and 7AM. You'd have a much better chance to see them tonight if you were near Montreal or Syracuse, both places are almost glanced by NOAA's predicted pathway.

Why are we getting whacked by a big geomagnetic storm? There was a powerful Coronal Mass Ejection at 2:50PM yesterday afternoon according to livemint.com, and earth is going to get whacked by this, and up to three or four more CME's over a period of 15 hours this evening. These events are heading towards us at 1.8 million miles per hour, and it's been suggested that if these flares merge on their way here, we puny humans may be in for a very strong G3 geomagnetic storm that has the force to disrupt our precious internet and GPS signals.

I hope the sky is clear tomorrow morning, I'll be watching the Northern sky on my trip in at 4AM.
