Inaugural Plein Air Painting Festival Coming to Litchfield in October
Do you enjoy watching artists draw or paint? Would you like to see an artist create something right in front of you? A unique event for artists is coming to Litchfield in October.
I've never heard of 'Plein air' painting before today. Plein air painting/drawing is the act of an artist leaving the comfy confines of their studio to create artwork in/of the surrounding landscape outside. It's a French movement that originated in the 19th century that urges artists to create 'en plein air' or 'in the open air'.
Litchfield's Economic Development Commission, the Litchfield Historical Society, and local non-profit Art Tripping have teamed up to present the very first Plein Air Litchfield on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 7AM to 4:30PM. 28 of the finest landscape artists from New England have been invited to Litchfield to set up at various locations around town to capture the surrounding landscape. A reception will follow where the pieces will be judged, awards will be given out, and then be made available for purchase.
Who are the participating artists, and where will they be setting up? All over Litchfield, and the surrounding area, according to Doug Clement from visitlitchfieldct.com, who sent me the suggestion page you see above, and the participating artists.
But wait, there's more -
Visitors are encouraged to watch the artists as they work around town from 7am to 4:30pm, tickets to the reception are $28.52 and available for purchase HERE.
