I was scrolling through TikTok the other day and came across a great video by someone who goes by hellosummeredeen. To be honest, most Connecticut-based TikTok content doesn't really stand out, but Summer’s video was different—it touched on something a lot of us from the Nutmeg State have experienced: how people react when they find out where you're from.

Connecticut has this reputation for being a state of wealth, and with that comes a whole set of other stereotypes that can be a bit frustrating. In her video, Summer broke it down perfectly.

Whenever I get the reaction Summer describes in her video, I like to tell people to hop on YouTube and search "Bridgeport." Now, I don’t live in Bridgeport myself, and it’s kind of an extreme example, but it always gets their attention. It’s an eye-opener.

What a lot of outsiders don’t realize is that the stereotypical image of Connecticut—the one tied to wealth and privilege—is really just limited to a small part of the state. Think Greenwich and its neighboring towns. The rest of Connecticut? It’s just a bunch of regular ass people living their lives. We’re not all driving fancy cars or living in mansions, despite what some might assume! Hell, I have a hole in my sneaker right now. It's not that I can't afford a new pair, it's just that I work so much to try and afford to live here that I have no time to replace it.
