Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event Coming to Thomaston
Good for you Thomaston, you've been selected as the next town in the Naugatuck Valley to hold a household hazardous waste and paint collection event. If you live in 1 of 15 towns in the Naugatuck Valley, you can finally get rid of your Uncle's used motor oil, in milk jugs, in your garage, for free.

I just received an email from the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments announcing the upcoming event in Thomaston, here are the details. If you are a resident of any of the following towns: Ansonia Beacon Falls, Bethlehem, Derby, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oxford, Prospect, Seymour, Southbury, Thomaston, Waterbury, Watertown, Wolcott and Woodbury, you're in luck. On Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 8AM until 2PM, bring your household hazardous waste to Thomaston High School - 185 Branch Road.
I speak from experience by telling you that a hard-working group of people will be waiting for you to pull your vehicle up to their collection bins, where they will get every acceptable items (Up to 50 pounds) into a bin to be properly and safely disposed of. I've been to three previous NVCOG collection events in Waterbury, and God what a great feeling it is to free yourself of whatever gross chemicals from the past that may lurk in those ancient containers under your sink or in your shed.
The best part? It's a free event, all you have to do is show proof of residency (Driver's license, tax bill, etc.) There is a big list of what to, and what NOT to bring, on nvcogct.gov.
