Have you noticed that it's been a little bit easier to find your way around in the dark around Torrington over the past week? I have, and I'd like to say thank you to the hard-working crews of the company that made my deer-strike paranoia at 4AM ease up - Eversource.

Oh no, I said the name. Public Enemy #1. With the highest energy rates this side of the Mighty Mississippi, you cannot mention Eversource without $150 disappearing your checking account, right? Or risk the wrath of your neighbor that just opened up their $480 monthly electric bill. Well, I'm grateful for the hundreds of linemen up in those buckets that I've seen up in the air over S. Main Street. It seems like the infrastructure of Torrington has been undergoing a major upgrade since I moved here three years ago, and I just found out some facts.

Eversource and it's partner, Fulcrum Energy Solutions of Fall River, Massachusetts, have just announced they've completed a major energy efficiency upgrade in Torrington that will save the city 427,000 kilowatt-hours of power annually. You may have seen the crews up and down Main Street over the past year installing new LED street lights, but they've also done upgrades on boilers, HVAC systems, hot water pumps, insulation, and law-flow water aerators at Torrington's Police and Fire Department HQ's, Teen Center, Public Works Department, and Veteran's Office.

According to Eversource, the new upgrades have reduced the consumption of kilowatt-hours equivalent to that of over 760,000 miles driven by a gas-powered vehicle.
