Have You Heard of the Oklahoma Onion Burger Yet Connecticut?
From 1976 to 1984 I lived in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma, otherwise I was in Waterbury, and now Torrington. I loved my Midwestern youth, and what I love even more is when a piece of it shows up in Connecticut. Have you heard of the Oklahoma Onion Burger? Now you have, get ready for your next obsession.
What is an Oklahoma Onion Burger? According to foodandwine.com, 'It's a Natural Treasure'. We all know cheeseburgers, with every topping ever made, we're experts, right? Basically, an Oklahoma Onion Burger is a typical cheeseburger, with an inch thick layer of sauteed onions on top. My cousins took me to a place in Norman, Oklahoma called Tucker's, where I tried my first. That close-up you see above is due to me not showing everyone my crazy eyes, just the burger, now that it's just us, here's the whole pic.
Look at the crazed look of a meat and onion madman. This is the face of someone who has eaten every cheeseburger combo on the planet. I didn't expect it to be that good, those onions, my lord, they were almost caramelized.
The reason why I'm writing this, is we're starting to see Midwestern and Midsouth companies come to the Northeast with new food ideas for our area. Something very similar to the Oklahoma Onion Burger is being served up at Mooyah, a Texas-based burger joint that sells an onion burger at their locations in Guilford, Newington, and Storrs, Connecticut.
