Hat Tricks to Celebrate Danbury’s Colorful Hockey History at Alumni Night

The Danbury Trashers packed a lot into two seasons: Reputed to have a goal of at least three fights per game, they allegedly soaked their jerseys in Crisco so their opponents couldn't get a grip. Section 102, positioned right behind the visiting team, became known far and wide for its boisterous loyalty.

NHLers Mike Rupp and Brent Gretzky played for them in the 2004-05 season, and the 2005-06 Trashers reached the UHL Championship, falling just short of the trophy.

The Hat Tricks, deep into their inaugural season, are going to pay tribute to the Trashers and other Danbury hockey teams during Danbury Hockey Alumni Night on March 7. Corey Fulton's number (15) will be retired in honor of his 63 games and 437 PIMs with the Danbury Whalers from 2010-12, and a Trashers banner commemorating the 2005-06 season will be strung from the rafters.

"It was all about starting a culture here," former Trashers General Manager A.J. Galante told The Hat Tricks. "Without the fans, we wouldn't have been what we were. Everything from the Trashers to right now, it's based on the loyalty of the fans. Without their passion, we would have been just another team. That's what sets Danbury apart from other minor league cities."

Official Trashers licensed apparel will be available for purchase, too, according to the Danbury Trashers Facebook page, and players from the Trashers, Mad Hatters, Whalers, Stars and Titans will join the on-ice festivities.

Then, you'll get to watch the Hat Tricks take on the Danville Dashers.

"I like the direction that the Hat Tricks are going in," former Trashers Owner James Galante told the Hat Tricks. "I like the way they play. Any team that has heart, that's a winner."
