Thursday (January 4) was certainly a very busy day for the Danbury Fire Department.

Not only were they were called to a fire at Puppy Love in Danbury Thursday night, but earlier in the day, crews also fought a blaze at the Danbury Federal Correctional Institute.

According to a social media post from the Danbury FD, when crews responded to the FCI call, they found a fire in a laundry bin that was brought outside the Laundry room by FCI staff before the fire fighters arrived. Fire crews extinguished the blaze and were alerted to possible injuries by FCI staff.

A total of seven FCI employees were reportedly triaged and transported to Danbury Hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation as well as inhalation of powder from the dry chemical extinguishers.

The fire is believed to have started in a bin filled with towels in the Laundry Room and is under investigation by Federal Authorities, but does not appear suspicious at this time.

A MCI (mass casualty incident) was declared so Danbury Hospital Staff could prepare for multiple patients. No further patient information has been given, but the seven patients were conscious and transported for evaluation.
