The off-ramp at exit 11 on interstate 84 in Newtown has been re-opened after a fatal accident caused it to close for nearly four hours today (May 30).

According to a press release from the Connecticut State Police, 64-year-old Gerard Mauskapf of nearby Red Hook, NY pulled his 2014 Ford Fusion over to the right shoulder of the ramp where exit 11 off of I-84 curves before splitting toward Route 34 and Sandy Hook respectively. As he exited his car, both Mauskapf and his car were struck by an 18-year-old from Sandy Hook.

State Police did not know why Mauskapf decided to exit his vehicle. Police are asking anyone who has any information at all about the accident to please call Trooper Matthew Cimelus at Troop A in Southbury at 203-267-2200.
