Osborne Street in Danbury turns into a nightmare every day around 3 p.m. when the school buses roll out, and it doesn’t really let up until about 8. You might ask, “What can the city do about this? What about the state?”

I’ll tell you right now — we don’t need the city, the state, or a team of engineers to solve it. This can’t be fixed with a study or a plan. You just need to take my advice: Get. Off. Your. Phones.

The lights on Osborne don’t stay green for long. That would be fine if people actually paid attention when they did turn green. But they don’t. The first car is always messing around on their phone, and by the time they realize it’s green, maybe two cars squeeze through before it’s red again.

Yesterday wasn’t the first time I noticed it, but it was definitely the worst — right in front of Mina’s Carne. Add in the cars coming from the side streets, forcing their way into the mess, and it’s chaos.

How hard is it to keep your face off your phone long enough to wait for a light? I know I sound like an old man yelling at clouds, but we all have places to be. Pull your head out of your phone so the rest of us can get moving.

It took me 20 minutes to go a mile and a half.

P.S. This isn’t just an Osborne Street problem — people are glued to their phones everywhere. It just feels worse there because the green lights barely last eight seconds.
