Thousands Gather For Music And Fun At San Gennaro Festival
Danbury’s San Gennaro Festival Just Wrapped Up — And It Was Massive
The Feast of San Gennaro has roots that stretch all the way back to Italy. San Gennaro, also known as Saint Januarius, was the Bishop of Benevento in the 3rd century and is remembered as a martyr of the early Church. His most famous miracle is said to be the liquefaction of his blood — a phenomenon that Catholics still honor in Naples, where crowds gather multiple times a year to witness it. His feast day, September 19, became a centerpiece of celebration, blending religious devotion with food, music, and community.
When Italian immigrants brought their traditions to America in the early 20th century, they brought San Gennaro with them. The first Feast of San Gennaro in the U.S. was held in New York City’s Little Italy in 1926, and it quickly became one of the largest and most famous Italian street festivals in the country. What started as a one-day religious observance grew into a multi-day bash full of parades, vendors, music, and (of course) food. The tradition spread from there, inspiring San Gennaro celebrations in cities and towns across the country.

Did you know Danbury has its own San Gennaro Festival? It gets bigger and better every year, and the 2025 feast just wrapped up and it was a massive success. Thousands came out between Thursday and Sunday to eat, drink, dance, and celebrate.
There were more vendors than ever before, plus killer live music from Jimi Bell and Beyond Purple, The Zoo, Back in Black (AC/DC tribute), and the Not Sorry Band. The weather was picture-perfect for the weekend, with sunshine and a cool breeze setting the stage for fireworks, laser light shows, and family fun.
We (I-95) were lucky enough to broadcast live from the festival Friday through Sunday, and everywhere you looked there was something going on — games for kids, cold beer and wine for the adults, and more food than any sane human should attempt to eat in one sitting.

The Galante family once again put this event on free for the community, with city leadership rallying behind it, proving that Danbury knows how to throw a proper party.
Personally, this is my favorite event we’re involved in every year. Not only do I get to celebrate my culture, but I also get to hang out with so many of our loyal listeners and share a few laughs.
The 2025 San Gennaro Festival was truly an event you couldn’t miss — and if you did, I’m sorry, but there’s something seriously off with your dome piece.
Look at those two. And then these four. So many numbers.
Oh and this..
That and them.
