Danbury Teen Recognized at CNN Awards for Her Charity
Last year, we told you about one Danbury girl who since she was very young wanted to do something charitable with her art work.
Her name is Chelsea Phaire, and since she was seven years old, she's been pleading with her mom and dad to start her very own charity.
For Chelsea, persistence paid off because when she asked again at the age of 10, her mom and dad decided she just might be able to handle the responsibility, so she took the ball, or should I say art kit, and ran with it.
When she turned 10 in August of 2019, Chelsea's Charity was born, and instead of birthday gifts, she asked her party-goers for art supply donations. Within five months, she had sent out 1,500 art kits packed with markers, gel pens, coloring books, crayons, and colored pencils to kids in foster care and homeless shelters all over the United States.
Well looks like all her hard work and passion for her charity has attracted some national attention. According to wfsb.com, the Danbury 7th grader was honored this week by CNN, the cable news network.
The award couldn't have gone to a more qualified candidate. Since she began her charity, Chelsea has shipped out more than 20,000 free art kits to kids all over the U.S. and even to other countries from all over the globe.
Then when it came time for CNN to pick someone for their "Young Workers of 2021 Award", Chelsea was the obvious choice.
So on Sunday night Chelsea and her mom made their way to New York City and the Museum of Natural History where the Danbury 7th grader took to the stage to accept her award. She was even introduced by singer Josh Grobin, who even expressed an interest in working with her to take her charity to the next level.
Chelsea's interest in art was sparked by the death of a close family friend from gun violence that turned her love of art into an effective therapy that helped her deal with the tragedy. Her crusade was to make the technique more obtainable to individuals all over the country who might also need some help healing emotional wounds.
