A hobby that I've never been able to shake, even into my 50's is sports collectibles and trading cards. I cannot resist a blaster box if I see them in a store, and unlike my childhood, collectibles and sport cards are everywhere in Connecticut lately.

There are many brick and mortar stores in Connecticut for the hardcore Hobby-box chasers and PSA-graded hunters. Remember When in Brookfield, JB Sportscards in Milford, and Rock Solid Sports Cards in Derby are great choices, but lately I've found the best selection of new product in Walgreens, CVS, and Dick's Sporting Goods. I've never seen a hobby box at Walmart or Target, but I've found quite a few at GameStop before they started to disappear.

We do have great local and regional sports card and collectible shows in Connecticut in 2025. The Hartford Yard Goats and Dunkin' Park will host their first ever card & memorabilia show on August 23, and two big events will take place in September. First, the Northeast Sports Card Expo will be held in Stamford September 13-14 at the Chelsea Piers Athletic Club, and then the East Coast Collectible Convention is Sunday, September 21 in the Sky Convention Center at Mohegan Sun.

CVS, Target, Walgreens, Walmart, GameStop, BJ's, Costco, Big Y, 7-11, and even a gas station here and there have all caused me to go $50 over my budget for the week over the past 12 months, but the selection at Walgreens has done me in the most. Who will cash in on the Fanatics.com and Pokemon money train next? Frankie's and McDonalds?
