Connecticut Man Cuts Down Iconic Tree, Blames Hatred for Sibling
How much hatred must your soul possess to destroy a landmark that was near and dear to your brother? That's exactly what 63-year-old Curtis Pardee did.
According to the New York Post, because of his hatred for his brother, David, the Connecticut man destroyed the famous "Door Tree." The 200-year-old door-shaped tree was located in Hamden, CT and has even been featured on Ripley's Believe It or Not.
Curtis' brother David is known locally as Mr. Door Tree because of his passion for the legendary white oak. After denying cutting the tree down, Hamden police showed Curtis a piece of mail addressed to him that was left at the scene, at which point he reportedly confessed.
When asked why he cut down the legendary tree, Pardee reportedly t old authorities it was because of, "hatred for my brother." He was charged with criminal mischief and criminal trespass charges. He also told authorities, he's suffered from mental illness since 2010.
