Connecticut Could See a Blood Moon This Coming Month
Our little state of Connecticut is going to block out that big old moon in our skies this coming month. Well, Connecticut, together with the rest of the world.
Connecticut has a very very good chance at experiencing a total lunar eclipse, better known as a Blood Moon, on the night of May 15-16, 2022, according to the eclipse map on timeanddate.com. Connecticut is basically smack dab in the middle of the cone of entire eclipse visibility. Hopefully the clouds are sparse, because it should be a spectacular sight.
Why is it called a Blood Moon? Because the light that bends around the Earth's shadow turns the moon into a reddish hue. During a lunar eclipse, the earth passes between the sun and moon, which blocks the sun's rays. The sun is kinda strong though, as those of us devoted to SPF know, and some of its light gets around little old earth, bending and changing color. To us puny little humans, the brilliant white moon will slowly morph into a celestial vampire, draining us of...oh, sorry, it's just going to slowly darken to a reddish/orange color over the course of a couple of hours.
So, if you want to plan this out and check out a Blood Moon with your own eyes, it's going to happen here in Connecticut starting at 10:27 PM on Sunday, May 15, 2022. The total eclipse will occur from 11:28 PM to 12:11 AM.
