Compounce or Quassy? It’s Almost Time to Decide in Connecticut
Welcome to Spring 2024, with warm weather returning, precious outdoor activities are returning. Did you know that the oldest amusement park in all of the United States of America is right here in Bristol, Connecticut? They've announced their opening date, and one of their competitors has slated their opening on the very same day. It's an amusement park showdown Connecticut, and we all win.
Connecticut is home to three amusement parks worth mentioning, Lake Compounce Amusement Park in Bristol, Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury, Ocean Beach Park in New London. Out of the three, Compounce is the giant, Quassy is the middle sibling, and Ocean Beach is the little guy.
Saturday, April 27 is weeks away, and that's the day that you will have to choose between two cities seperated by 20 miles of I-84 between Bristol or Middlebury. Both Quassy Amusement Park and Lake Compounce are opening up for the 2024 season on that date. Sadly, Ocean Beach's website hasn't been updated since 2020, but I was able to find out that they have set opening and closing dates of Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend (May 25 - September 2).
What's going to be new at Lake Compounce for 2024? According to nbcconnecticut.com, Compounce's legendary Wildcat roller coaster is reopening this year after portions of a two year renovation of the wooden coaster have been completed. After major upgrades to Splashaway Bay in previous years, Quassy has not announced significant improvements or changes for the 2024 season. Ocean Beach Park in New London has not announced any significant changes or improvements for the upcoming Summer 2024 season either.
