According to CTPost.com, First Night Danbury was founded by volunteers in 1989 and was one of only three First Night events in Connecticut and among the 40 throughout the US. About seven years ago, CityCenter Danbury adopted First Night to bring family friendly entertainment, as well as business, to the downtown.

First Night Danbury is bringing back entertainers from earlier First Night events to perform at their anniversary event on New Year’s Eve, such as former appointed Connecticut State Troubadour Lara Herscovitch.

"First Nights are among my favorite places to play music: festive and weird (I mean that in the best way),” recalls Herscovitch, according to First Night Danbury’s Facebook page. “Otherwise disconnected individuals, couples, and families wandering around a town square atmosphere from venue to venue to venue, the terrific diversity of types of performances and events. Shared laughter with 'strangers' is for sure one of the best ways to start a new year."
