According to “The Great Chicken Wing Hunt,” the Buffalo wing was invented by Teressa Bellissimo in March 1964. Bellissimo, who owned the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, got stuck with a case of chicken wings.

Wings at the time, according to the docutmentary were apart of the chicken that was thrown away.

Bellisimo, who reportedly had a potty mouth, woke up at 3:30 a.m. with an idea to fry the wings and toss them in a spicy red hot sauce. Soon all the local restaurants were selling Buffalo wings. The trend later spread throughout New York, and then the entire US.

The Anchor Bar still serves wings today.
