Breaking Down FL Gov’s Law Draft That Would Allow People to Shoot Looters
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has drafted legislation that would expand on the state's "stand your ground" law. The "anti-mob" law would allow for citizens to shoot looters. The legislation defines looting as "Interruption or impairment of a business within 500 feet of a violent or disorderly assembly."
According to the NY Post, former Miami-Dade County prosecutor Denise Georges, who dealt with "Stand Your Ground" cases, had this to say:
It dangerously gives armed private citizens power to kill as they subjectively determine what constitutes criminal mischief that interferes with a business, Someone graffiti-ing ‘Black Lives Matter’ on a wall? Urinating behind a dumpster? Blocking an entrance?
Let's just say, I personally, strongly disagree with the Governor of Florida. If you want to hear how I explained myself, the segment from the Ethan and Lou Show where we discussed it, is below.
After we got finished with this segment, I started to get reaction from our listeners. Sheila M.V. messaged me and wrote the following:
"Florida’s ideas are better than California, Cali made it legal to have consensual sexual relations with a minor."
I responded to Sheila by only saying that we were not talking about California. If what she is saying is true, in any sense, of any interpretation, of any law, the State deserves to sink into the ocean.
I remarked when someone is talking about a terrible political idea and someone else brings up, an unrelated state or politician, it's like parents comparing their kids behavior when one of them is in trouble.
It's a typical, transparent, deflection tactic, we were not ranking states by their terrible ideas. We were talking about Florida. For the record, I like this woman but California has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
The next comment I got came from Ed C. who said:
"So tell me if I’m wrong, someone can spend 30 years building his business, have his entire life tied up in it the somebody gets shot by a cop 6 states away and the rioting/looting start in your city. 20 people show up at your business and start looting it. You support the looters?"
My response to ED was, "I don't support looters but I don't believe in deputizing the public." Now it's your turn, we asked this poll question to our Instagram audience.
Now we are asking you......
