New York state is one step closer to making our children safer on the school bus. Legislation has passed to ensure more safety both on and off the bus.
There have been many bills that are being presented to the New York State Senate as part of a package of transportation safety laws. Some of them have already passed including one that would make it safer for our children on and off the school bus.

According to WKBW.com, the school bus stop sign arm camera bill has passed in the New York State Senate. This will allow buses to record those vehicles that pass stopped school buses illegally. Senator Tim Kennedy, who introduced the bill, said that there are fifty thousand drivers across New York State that deliberately pass a stopped school bus. He wanted to get this bill passed to send a message that this is unacceptable and to ensure stricter enforcement.

The school bus stop-arm cameras will allow law enforcement to identify those breaking the law, track them down, hold them accountable and ensure they will be fined.

In Connecticut, many school buses are already equipped with these types of cameras.
