Frosty Nights Bring Brilliant Foliage To New England
The most natural show of beautiful colors on the face of this earth is finally approaching it's peak, so I want to officially alert the leaf peepers that's it's almost time.
New England's fall foliage brings in tourism from around the world, and especially from the Eastern seaboard. Nature lovers from Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and many other states are checking the upcoming forecast for this weekend because we're basically inside the window of peak color that most national websites had predicted for the Fall 2025 season.
It's been a slow turn in Connecticut so far this year, we started seeing the first hints of change in the last week of September, and now that we've had a couple of frosts in the last two weeks, the change has accelerated.
Northern Litchfield County is maybe a week or so away from brilliance, I travel Rt. 202 between Torrington and Brookfield twice a day, and from New Milford all the way up into Litchfield the bright yellow, orange, and red splashes of falling leaves are truly starting to fill in. Typically the first two weeks of October have been the best times to see the Fall color in Litchfield County, but 2025 has been a bit different.
Where should you explore for some of the best viewing in Connecticut? Most will point to Rt. 7 between New Milford and Great Barrington, Massachusetts, but I'd suggest a trip along Rt. 8 from Beacon Falls into Naugatuck, and Watertown to Otis, Massachusetts, and take 202 back from Litchfield to New Milford for an alternate route with great views.
