What does Connecticut need to compete with New York City and Boston? A pro sports team would be nice, but the shiny new toy that everyone is buzzing about is Sphere.

Are you one of the lucky ones that has experienced a show inside the world's largest immersive video and audio performance venue? Just recently plans for the second Sphere in the world were announced, unfortunately for us on the East Coast, it's not coming anywhere near here. Sphere Entertainment has announced that the second one of these incredible facilities will be built in Abu Dhabi.

The second Sphere was originally being planned to be built in London, but concerns arose over potential light pollution from the dazzling LED displays killed the idea. New York City? If a structure this size were to be built, neighborhoods would have to be moved just like what happened around Hudson Yards over the past decade. Boston? Providence? Real Estate is still a problem. How about here?

The major entertainment builds that I've seen in my lifetime in Connecticut are: Rentschler Field, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, Xfinity/Meadows in Hartford, and Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Bridgeport. Great Wolf Lodge is under construction right now, and it's quite a sight.

Sphere in Las Vegas is the most expensive entertainment venue ever built in Vegas at $2.3 billion, even more than the spiffy new Allegiant Stadium. This is what Connecticut needs. We've floated the idea of a 80,000+ stadium to Robert Kraft and ended up with the Rent, would you pay $600 to see the Dead or U2 in an incredible venue like this instead?

Five Businesses That We Will Never, Ever See Here in Connecticut

You can get almost anything that your heart desires in the State of Connecticut, except for the products produced by these five national retailers and fast-food companies. The only way to enjoy anything from the following places is traveling out of Connecticut, or ordering it on Amazon, and a burger isn't the same after jetting across country.
