Catholics of Connecticut, why sit in a pew on Easter Sunday when you have the option to take in a sweeping 360 view of the Naugatuck Valley and Waterbury?

Easter Sunday is this Sunday, April 20, 2025. If you're an early riser who would rather not sit inside a church, the City of Waterbury is once again presenting Easter Sunday mass outside at a very unique location. Mayor Paul Pernerewski and The City of Waterbury have just announced that once again for 2025 Waterbury's Holy Land USA will host an Easter Sunday Sunrise Mass at Holy Land USA, located at 60 Slocum Street. The gates will open at 5am, and Mass by Father James Sullivan will begin promptly at 6am.

There will be limited seating, and you are encouraged to bring your own chair to the event. Limited parking, with a few handicapped parking spaces available in the Holy Land USA parking lot, but space is limited, and carpooling is suggested.

The first Easter sunrise mass at Holy Land was a result of the pandemic, but this unique event has come back for 2025. Holy Land USA sits on 18 acres between the city's downtown/South end/East Mountain neighborhoods. Holy Land USA originally opened up in 1955 but fell into disrepair and closed to the public in 1984. The original 50 foot cross was replaced by a 65 foot stainless steel illuminated cross in 2013. Holy Land USA reopened in 2014 during daylight hours for those who may want to see the last remnants of the Stations of the Cross that have survived decades of neglect.

Three of the Loudest Concerts I Ever Got to See in Connecticut

After 33 years of working at various radio stations around Connecticut, I've been lucy enough to see hundreds of live performances. A friend recently asked what were the loudest concerts that I remember going to. I came up with three that truly blew my ear drums away.
