On the coast of Long Island Sound in Waterford, Connecticut, sits what's left of the Seaside Sanatorium. As you stand on the shoreline at 36 Shore Drive, looking out at the Sound, you can feel the relentless wind and the spray of the waves.
Built in 1934 on 36 acres, the facility was initially constructed to treat children with tuberculosis. The former asylum was closed more than two decades ago and was turned into a state park in 2014 under former Governor Daniel Malloy, but the dilapidated buildings remain while the State of Connecticut continues to drag its feet on what to do with the facilities.
