A good loaf of bread can make all the difference at the dinner table. The importance of the loaf can not be overstated but where do you go to score on in the Danbury area? Someone recently posed this question on the Danbury Reddit page and there were some very helpful responses.

Where to get a good loaf?

We moved to Mill Plain area about 2 years ago, and I'm still confounded as to where to get a decent crusty loaf of Italian or French bread. Caraluzzi's / Stop n Shop / TJ's are non-starters. The bread there is disgraceful. There isnt' a stand alone bakery anywhere near here. Where does someone get a decent loaf around Danbury? HALP

LuckDragon7: "General Bakeshop in Brewster, but it’s expensive. I love Whole foods sourdough bread."

TinyIndependence279: "My favorite bakery for fresh bread is always the Elefante Bakery in Danbury. It's over near the ice skating rink. Not too far from you... If you can go early Sunday mornings, you can get it nice and warm."

LeaveLongjumping9166: "Kobackers deli in brewster on Sunday morning. They bring it in from Arthur Avenue. Gotta go really early though."

beyonceknowls: "Ross Bread in ridgefield!!!"

stevenscott704: "I’m a recent NY transplant. So far the best Italian or French bread I’ve found is from Stew Leonard’s or Costco."

stoopidpillow: "Uncle Matt’s in Newtown. Ovens of France in Woodbury. Bantam Bread Company in Bantam. Not in Danbury but these are the best bread places I know of around the area. Edit: Mothership on Main in Danbury might be a good option. I actually don’t know if they bake bread but they are a bakery and I’ve had other things from them that were really good."

dontcallmecarrots: "Ovens of France also delivers fresh to Halas Farm market in Danbury on weekends."

PiscesAndAquarius: "Dude bakeries in CT are awful because I think the water quality is so bad. Drive to NY. There is a good bagel place in Newtown that gets the bagels from NY. They are amazing."

This dude or lady knows what the hell they are talking about. It's true and the bread is amazing. I'm not just saying that because it's my Uncle Frank's store.
