Recently, I was scrolling through the Connecticut Reddit group when I stumbled across an interesting discussion about seasonal beverages, or “bevs,” as my son calls them. Apparently, there is some confusion at Connecticut grocery stores, and it involves two of the biggest fall and winter drinks: apple cider and eggnog.

The whole thing started when Reddit user u/shockwave_supernova posted:

WTF is happening with seasonal beverages these days. No apple cider but plenty of egg nog and it's not even October

The poster claimed they had visited five different grocery stores looking for apple cider and came up empty-handed, despite the fact that it wasn't even October yet. Meanwhile, according to the post, eggnog had already started showing up on store shelves back in August and would somehow become impossible to find by the middle of January.

Now, the claim about apple cider not being available was challenged pretty quickly by fellow Connecticut Redditors. Several people chimed in with their own cider sightings:

Mundane_feeling8024: Stop and Shop and Big Y both have copious amounts of apple cider, at least when I was there.

6483955: You’re closing your eyes if you’re not seeing apple cider. It’s at stop n shop, BJs, Big Y, Caraluzzi’s.

Mikethemoose35: ShopRite had plenty of cider on Friday. Make sure to check the produce section.

Oceanwalker70: Big Y, Stop & Shop and all the farm stands around Rocky , Wethersfield and Glastonbury have cider.

War1today: Costco has a gallon of Apple cider for $5.99.

So, let's trust the Connecticut Reddit crowd on this one and assume apple cider is, in fact, available and this particular person just wasn't finding it. The egg nog situation, however, is another story.

I am willing to believe that eggnog is already creeping onto Connecticut store shelves because, let's face it, Christmas seems to invade every other holiday earlier every year. Pretty soon we'll be hanging Christmas lights before Halloween decorations come down.

That said, someone mentioned Arethusa eggnog in the comments, and apparently it is the stuff to get. I've heard enough people rave about Arethusa products that I'll probably be looking for a bottle myself.

Or I can make my own eggnog, this guy from Preppy Kitchen seems to have a dope recipe.
