Danbury Residents Can Get Free Flu Shots This Flu Season
According to a release from the City of Danbury, getting your flu shot now could help keep you out of the hospital later this flu season.
The Danbury Health and Human Services Department is reminding residents that the flu can be more than just a few miserable days on the couch. While many people recover without serious complications, those with underlying health conditions can face a much greater risk if they come down with the flu.
According to information from the CDC and National Institutes of Health, about 9 out of 10 people hospitalized with the flu have an underlying condition, such as heart disease, diabetes or lung disease.
And here's the part that might get your attention: the flu vaccine can reduce the risk of flu-related hospitalization by about 45%.
Obviously, nobody wants to spend their winter feeling like garbage, but avoiding a trip to the hospital is an even better reason to take the flu seriously. Especially if you or someone in your family has a medical condition that could make the flu more dangerous.
The City of Danbury is offering flu vaccines at no cost, regardless of whether you have health insurance. So if you've been putting off getting your shot because you haven't gotten around to it yet, this might be a good time to finally check it off the list.
To schedule your free flu vaccine, contact the Danbury Health and Human Services Department at (203) 797-4625.
Basically, winter is coming, flu season is coming with it, and nobody wants to be the person who spends December coughing on the couch while everyone else is out enjoying themselves. A quick phone call now could potentially save you a much bigger headache later.
