It's been a long winter, and one of my favorite ways to keep warm over the past 6 months was inhaling a nice bowl of chili. Beef, beans, and onions is a wonderful combination.

I love trying chili off a deli or restaurant menu, it's classic comfort food. Some use pork, others beef, and there are many vegetarian chili's that are almost edible. I've ordered chili this winter from over a dozen different restaurants and delis across Connecticut, and there were three that really stood out.

The steakhouse beef chili that Watertown Meat Center serves is excellent. I've said it before, Watertown Meat Center has one of Greater Waterbury's best to-go cold and prepared food selections, and the soup and chili Masters get another "Job Well Done' from me today. The perfect blend of spices, and the hunks of meat were perfect. Definitely one of the best chili's.

The Smothered Dragon Chili Crock that I had at Guy Fieri's Kitchen and Bar at Foxwoods Resort Casino was outstanding. They use a beef/pork meat mix, cover it in cheddar and sour cream, and the cornbread was perfect to soak up the remnants. This was the most expensive chili that I had all winter, but it was worth the $16.

I know, a grocery store? It's tough to admit, but there are some fast-food restaurants and supermarkets that do a much better job at chili. Fresh Market is one of them. The chili that I got from the Fresh Market in Avon was delicious.

Five Years Later: The COVID-19 Lockdown of 2020 in Connecticut

Where were you five years ago this week? Washing your hands every five minutes? Standing at least six feet away from your neighbor? Connecticut was locked down longer than most states in the US. I took a few photos of what we experienced during that moment in time. All of these were taken between March and May of 2020.

The Culinary Highlights Along Route 44 Through Litchfield County

I love exploring Litchfield County since I made the move to Torrington, there are so many underrated restaurants, cafes, and bakeries that don't get the attention of someplace in Hartford, New Haven, or Danbury. Route 44 is a major roadway that cuts across Northern Litchfield County east to west from Lakeville to New Hartford, if you're hungry, here are some great places to stop.
