The End is Near for Torrington’s Coffee House Plus
When my wife and I moved to Torrington, one of the first local businesses that we really liked was Coffee House Plus, at 242 S. Main St. Sadly, it permanently closed a couple of months ago in August. Well, get one last look at our old pal, the new owners are finally tearing the place up.
You know why we went to Tara, and Coffee House Plus? They dared to stand up and compete directly across S. Main St. from national powerhouses, and said "Try ours". Cumby and Dunkin'? I'd still go there, but I preferred paying a little extra for a freshly-made egg and cheese sandwich from her. How did Coffee House Plus end after 10 years in business? According to Coffee House Plus's Facebook page, the building was sold, and a smoke/vape shop is moving in.
If I'm not mistaken, this will be the fifth smoke/vape shop in downtown Torrington? I'm not lumping Wasteland on Water Street into that mix, they're heritage. Are there really that many vape/tobacco users in Torrington? While I'm complaining, what the hell happened to Ebenezer on S. Main too? Erik Estrada couldn't have stopped by and maybe renovated a few other places along the street?
The transformation has begun at 242, the whole exterior of the building has been coated in matte black, even the Coffee House Plus sign on the front of the building. The street sign is still standing, but from the looks of it, not for long. Take one last look this week, it will be gone sooner than you think.
