Stop & Shop Under the Microscope: Harsh Reviews from Connecticut
In July, we reported that Stop & Shop had announced the upcoming closure of several grocery stores in Connecticut. The company's press release stated:
"Quincy, Mass. (July 12, 2024) — Stop & Shop today outlined the next steps in its growth strategy. As part of its commitment to investing in pricing and customer experience, the company will close 32 underperforming stores by the end of the year. Despite these closures, Stop & Shop will maintain a strong presence across its five-state footprint with more than 350 stores. Associates at the affected locations will be offered opportunities at other company locations."
The closures will affect eight stores in Massachusetts, ten in New Jersey, seven in New York, two in Rhode Island, and five in Connecticut. The impacted stores in Connecticut are:
- 100 Division St., Ansonia
- 211 High St., Torrington (931 Torringford St., Torrington will remain open)
- 1937 West Main St., Stamford (2200 Bedford St., Stamford will remain open)
- 855 Bridgeport Ave., Milford (1360 East Town Road, Milford will remain open)
- 72 Newtown Road, Danbury (44 Lake Avenue Ext., Danbury will remain open)
It seems that some people in Connecticut are ready to move on from the grocery store giant.

I'm conflicted when it comes to online reviews. On the one hand, it is nice to be able to investigate a product or service before spending money but the truth is very few people take the time to do a positive review. When you are upset, you have a fiery motivation to share your opinion on a business. However, you have got to be in a really fun mood to take a few minutes to leave a thoughtful, positive review for a business that gave you exactly what you asked for in exchange for money.
