New York Embarrassed! Making the List of 7 Worst States to Buy a What?
The Empire State has some egg on its face after a new study from GOBankingRates was published in the NY Post. GOBankingRates looked at the worst states in the US for purchasing a home right now and New York landed on the regrettable short list.
GBR looked at key factors like cost of living, crime rates, climate change, local issues, and property taxes to establish a list of the 7 states homebuyers should avoid right now. New York was on the list of 7 and this is what they found according to the Post:
New York remains a high-priced state with more issues than just the price tag.
“Beyond the high property taxes and cost of living in New York City, there’s also the matter of aging infrastructure,” Charlie noted.
“The subway system, for example, has been notorious for delays and breakdowns, making daily commutes a headache. Plus, the pandemic has shifted many jobs to remote work, reducing the need to live in or near the city and prompting many to relocate to suburban or even rural areas.
These were the remaining 6 States listed:
- California
- Florida
- Illinois
- Louisiana
- New Jersey
- West Virginia
I was shocked that Connecticut did not make this list. Look, I love living in the Nutmeg State because of the seasons, history, landscape, architecture, culture and food but this place is a disaster in so many other ways. The cost of living here is not even funny, the housing has dried up and small businesses are punished. Maybe if we stay bad at these things we can make the NY Post 2025 list. Fingers crossed.
